Horse Racing Has a Silver Lining – Casino Gambling

With all of the talk in the USA about casino gambling, it can be hard to tell who’s really on what side. Some say that they’re against casino gambling for moral reasons, but have no problem getting lottery tickets. To us, gambling is gambling. It doesn’t matter if you’re using a lottery ticket, a scratcher, or some other form of “small” gaming. You still get the thrill of risk, and that’s why we’re all here…isn’t it?

Well, there comes a point where you just have to look at the bigger picture. Casino gambling is great for horse racing enthusiasts, because it strengthens the purses involved in these races. Without a strong purse, the sport declines. There’s just no way around it. After all, have you seen how much it costs to raise and train champions? These people aren’t doing it just for the love of racing. They’re doing it for money, period.

Kentucky Derby

Casino gambling in a state is a great way to bring revenue without pinching the residents that already live there. There are going to be gamblers no matter where you go. Kentucky has actually lost key revenue to other states that gave the green light for casinos a long time ago. Ohio is enjoying having a casino, as well as Indiana and a few other states. Clearly, Kentucky needs to get on the ball and get things done.

Unfortunately, recent pushes to get a vote out to the people have failed. Legislators failed to vote on even allowing people to vote for what they wanted. Shouldn’t you get the final say of whether or not a major revenue producing activity comes to your state or not?

Whether we like to admit it or not, this is definitely a nation founded on capitalism. There are negative effects of capitalism, to be very sure. However, there’s also a need to make sure that we see the silver lining in things. For the future of horse racing to be bright, we need strong revenue to back it up. Casino gambling is the best way to do that.

And while we’re on the subject, online casino gaming wouldn’t be a bad idea either. There are going to be some people who stay home, certainly. But casinos are very clever and there’s nothing like a land-based casino. It just has a certain atmosphere that would be difficult to completely copy online.

What do you think? Is this something to think about as we march closer to the Kentucky Derby?
